Our Governors
As a Voluntary Controlled School, our school aims to serve its community by providing education of the highest quality within the context of Christian belief and practice. It encourages an understanding of the meaning and significance of faith and promotes Christian values through the experience it offers all its pupils.
Our Governing Body consists of 12 Governors:
The Executive Headteacher is a governor as part of the role.
3 parent governors elected by parents.
2 foundation governors: Foundation governors are elected by the Parochial Church Council.
1 governor is appointed by the Local Authority ~ Cheshire West and Chester.
4 governors are people from the local community appointed by the governing body ~ they are people who in the opinion of the governing body have the skills required to contribute to the effective governance and success of the school.
1 governor is a member of the teaching staff, elected by staff.
What does a governor do?
School governors provide strategic leadership and accountability in schools, acting within the framework set out by national legislation and the policies of the Local Authority and the Diocese.
Our Governors appoint the Headteacher and Head of School. The Governing Board hold the main responsibility for finance in schools, and it is governors who work with the Headteacher to make the tough decisions about balancing resources. Each individual governor is a member of a governing board, which is established in law as a corporate body. Individual governors may not act independently of the rest of the governing board; decisions are the joint responsibility of the governing board.
The role of the governing board is a strategic one; its key functions are to:
- set the school’s vision, ethos and strategic direction the aims and objectives for our school
- set the policies for achieving those aims and objectives
- set the targets for achieving those aims and objectives
- monitor and evaluate the progress the school is making towards achievement of its aims and objectives
- be a source of challenge and support to the Headteacher (a critical friend) by holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of our school and our pupils, the performance management of our staff; and
- overseeing the financial performance of our school and making sure its money is well spent.
The Headteacher is responsible for the internal organisation, management and control of the school and the implementation of the strategic framework established by the governing board.
In addition to meeting as a full Governing Body each term, we operate through four committees:
- Staffing & Financial Overview
- Teaching & Learning
- Pupil Welfare and Partnership
- Headteacher Performance Management.
Our full Governing Body meets termly as do each of our other committees.
A Governor workshop is held each Autumn term
A Staff and Governors workshop is held each Spring term
A ‘Governors in school day’ is held on an annual basis too, during the Summer term.
