Primary PE and Sport Premium Funding

Primary PE and Sport Premium Funding

The Secretary of State for Education continues to provide funding to improve the provision of Physical Education (PE) and sport in primary schools for academic year 2021-2022. This funding is being jointly provided by the Department for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, and it must be used to fund additional and sustainable improvements to the provision of PE and sport, to encourage the development of healthy, active lifestyles.

Ofsted assesses how primary schools use the primary PE and sport premium. They measure its impact on pupil outcomes, and how effectively governors hold school leaders to account for this. Schools therefore have to ensure that they can identify the impact that the funding has made towards enhancing participation rates in PE and sport, encouraging healthy, active lifestyles and helping children reach the performance levels that they are capable of. Schools will have the freedom to choose how they wish to use their money.

All schools with 17 or more pupils receive £16,000 plus £10 per pupil

Total number of pupils on roll (Y1-Y6) = 96

Total amount of sports funding allocated = £16,960

Tushingham School - Primary PE and Sport Premium Funding Impact Statement - July 2022

We are proud of the PE curriculum and sporting opportunities that we have on offer at Tushingham Primary School, which aim to inspire and motivate all children to become physically confident and know the importance of living a healthy lifestyle. Key values, including team work, resilience, determination and fair play, are taught and promoted as a golden thread throughout our PE curriculum. We believe that these skills can be applied to wider life experiences, contributing to the development of the whole child.

The sport premium funding has helped to develop the children’s confidence, skills and enjoyment of sports. Staff confidence has also increased as a direct result of the PE CPD sessions and our new planning and assessment tools, which ensures sustainability.

We strive hard to give all children opportunities to apply their skills in competitive situations, either within teams or individually, ensuring that we remain competitive and inclusive. Children from year 1 to year 6 now represent the school in a wide variety of sporting events including multi-skills, football, athletics, rounders, hockey, tag rugby, swimming, cricket, basketball and netball. Many of our children now also regularly take part in extra-curricular sports, and we ensure that we not only celebrate in-school achievements, but also promote and encourage out-of-school sporting opportunities.

We now have a strong uptake towards our competitive events, and as a result, we have been able to enter two teams to many competitions. In the 2018-2019 academic year, we took two teams to 29% (4 out of 14) of the competitions. Following Covid 19 restrictions being lifted, a full competition programme has taken place this academic year and we have been able to take an A and B team to 56% (5 out of 9 attended) of the competitions. We aim to continue to increase this percentage next academic year.

In July 2022, Tushingham School gained a gold award for the School Games Mark.
